Good Shepherd Child Development Center

Infant/Toddler Program

Each child's schedule is individualized to meet his/her needs.  Staff works closely with parents to establish feeding, sleeping, and toileting routines in order to maintain consistency between home and the Center.  Information about each child's day is logged on a daily activity sheet.  As each child moves into toddler-hood and it is developmentally appropriate, staff will transition the child into a group schedule.  While children will still be learning and exploring at their own rate, more structured activities such as singing, dancing, musical instruments and walking field trips will be offered.

Special Needs

We observe the children in all areas of development.  If a child appears to be exhibiting difficulty in any area of development, we will arrange to meet with the parents  The staff will provide information to parents for referral(s) to appropriate service(s) and/or professional(s).  Parents must provide written permission for referral services to begin.  Written permission for agencies to exchange appropriate information may also be requested.

Discipline Policy

Discipline is handled on an individual basis based on the child's stage of development.

Good Shepherd Child development center strives to provide classrooms designed to promote acceptable behaviors and assist the child in self control.  The modeling of desired behaviors, a well planned environment and basic rules of the classroom move the children toward self-discipline.

For very young children, redirection from the unacceptable behavior toward another activity is often used.  As a child matures, his/her ability to understand how behavior may affect not only him/herself, but also others, can be guided by assisting the child in the development of necessary communication skills.  Learning to use language, appropriately, to express issues is facilitated by teachers.  Staff uses a positive approach with children assisting them in developing appropriate, alternative behaviors.

Older children my experience the logical consequences of their actions.  By example: if an upset child throws blocks about the classroom, it will be necessary for the child to pick them up after he/she has calmed down
